Ohsawa® Organic Oindo Umeboshi Plums are handcrafted at the Oindo Family farm in Japan’s rural Nara Prefecture. The Oindos grow their plums on rich, volcanic soil farmed by their ancestors since the fourteenth century.
Umeboshi's complex salty/sweet, tart flavor enhances and gives balance to acidic foods. Umeboshi can replace salt in dressings, sauces and spreads, and is a great seasoning for soups, grains and vegetables. Umeboshi is a fermented raw food that will keep indefinitely at room temperature and inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria. Shiso (perilla) contains the bioflavonoid anthocyan, a powerful antioxidant. When combined with tart ume plums, they give umeboshi their red color and serve to ward off harmful, unhealthy organisms.
