Umeboshi is a salt, pickled, sun-dried ume plum, also know as a Prunus mume. This plum is one of Japan's most ancient superfoods.
Umeboshi has been used a healthy tonic in Japan since the 10th century. It was used as an energy enhancer by Samurai warriors. It contains high amounts of phosphoric and citric acids which have alkalizing affects on the blood, as Umeboshi is often referred to as "the king of Alkaline Foods."
